Bedroom | A computer screen shows train times from London to Manchester. A hand appears and writes down the times onto a piece of note paper. Boy X (17) walks over to cupboard doors and opens them. From inside he takes a small box, which contains photos of him and his mother when he was a child. He begins to looks through them. He looks over in the direction of the sound. A pair of straighteners are resting on a stool; the ready light is flashing. He puts the box by his bag. Boy X sits on a stool and begins on his hair. He stands up, walks over to a windowsill, picks up a little metal box and opens it. He takes out money, and puts the money in to a wallet. The wallet is put into an open bag with the box of photos, which is zipped up. He puts on his jacket and does it up. Boy X stands facing the door and puts his headphones in. He turns the volume up on his iPod. | Faint sounds of the computer fan. Cupboard doors creek Bleep. Silence. Clang of metal. Zip. Zip. Deep sigh. Muffled sound of music. |
Hallway | Boy X walks down the stairs, throws his bag on the floor and goes towards the kitchen. | Bag hits the floor. |
Kitchen | Boy X opens the fridge and looks in. On the middle shelf are Waitrose ready meals perfectly stacked and aligned for three people. On the bottom shelf are a few bottles of beer all facing perfectly forward. In the door is a bottle of expensive champagne, milk and juice. He takes out the milk. He leans against the work surface; brother and father sit at the table eating cereal, reading papers, and chatting. Boy Y gets up and leaves; Boy X puts his bowl on the work surface and leaves. | Faint sound of the turning of newspaper pages and the stirring of coffee in a cup. Turning of pages and quite chats. A chair creaks and scrapes against the floor; spoons clang against a bowl. |
Hallway | Both boys pick up their bags; Boy Y opens the door and exits. Boy X follows him and closes the door behind him. | Door unlocks Door slams shut |
Driveway | A group of boys wait at the edge of a driveway. Boy Y leaves with them. Boy X watches them disappear down the road; he looks around; stands still.
